According to Rod Baker, Chief Executive Officer of GCGC, The Kawartha facility was originally planned for closure as part of the opening of a new casino in Peterborough in October 2018 but having worked diligently with the Ontario government and OLG to create agreements it was a great benefit for all stakeholders.

About Kawartha Downs
Kawartha Downs has a Speedway which is a 3/8 mile paved oval located in Fraserville, Ontario, approximately 10 km southwest of Peterborough. The paved track is within the harness racing track, temporary grandstands are brought onto the harness racing tracks surface.
